Goebel Hummel Bird Figurine KT188 Vintage 1956 West Germany Porcelain Wildlife Collectible
Goebel Hummel Bird Figurine KT188 Vintage 1956 West Germany Porcelain Wildlife Collectible
This vintage porcelain bird figurine was produced by W. Goebel in West Germany in 1956 and is identified by the model number KT188. The piece reflects Goebel’s mid-20th-century approach to naturalistic bird studies, combining detailed modelling with restrained, realistic hand decoration.
The figurine is crafted from porcelain and hand painted in layered brown and neutral tones, accurately representing a small woodland bird perched on a stylised birch branch with green foliage. Fine attention is given to feather texture, beak shape, and stance, while the branch base features bark detailing and leaf accents typical of Goebel’s wildlife designs from this period. The underside bears the Goebel W. Germany mark, along with the impressed KT188 number and date attribution.
Goebel, founded in 1871 in Germany, became internationally recognised for its figurative porcelain, particularly during the post-war West Germany era. Bird figurines from the 1950s are especially sought after by collectors due to their sculptural quality and limited production compared to later decades.
The condition is very good vintage condition with no cracks or repairs noted. Minor age-related surface wear and small glaze variations may be present, consistent with age and original manufacture.
