Issued in 1996, this Royal Doulton “Desperate Dan” Character Jug (model D7034) was sculpted by Simon Ward for the Beano Comic Series. Based on the classic Dandy comic character, the jug captures Dan’s bold expression with a cactus-shaped handle and glossy hand-painted finish in vivid tones of brown, green, and red.

The base carries the official Royal Doulton backstamp, model number D7034, sculptor’s signature, and the copyright mark © D.C. Thomson & Co. Ltd. 1996. Produced in England, this piece was part of a limited run that celebrated British comic heritage through the craftsmanship of Royal Doulton’s Stoke-on-Trent studio.

This jug reflects Royal Doulton’s late 20th-century transition period when the company collaborated with cultural licenses such as The Beano.
