This vintage ceramic lady head vase depicts an elegant woman wearing a broad black hat decorated with a raised pink rose and softly coloured leaves.

The piece has a sculpted female bust form with closed eyes, moulded facial features, swept-back hair and a glossy black garment. An open cavity beneath the hat allows it to function as a decorative vase, small planter or vanity storage piece. The black, white, pink and pale green palette gives the design a distinctive mid-century appearance.

Lady head vases became popular decorative ceramics during the mid-twentieth century and were commonly used for small floral arrangements or displayed on dressing tables.
