This blue and white ceramic lidded jar was made in Alcobaça, Portugal, a region known for its traditional hand-painted pottery, and this piece is a late 20th century Portuguese revival style jar inspired by 18th century decorative designs. The cylindrical form and fitted lid make it suitable as a small storage canister, countertop jar, or display piece in a blue and white interior.
The surface is hand painted in cobalt tones over a glossy white glaze, featuring folk art motifs including a bird, floral branches, berries and decorative border bands. The brushwork shows natural variation and minor glaze movement typical of handmade Portuguese ceramics, giving the jar an authentic artisan finish.
The base is hand marked “C.C. Sec. XVIII Alcobaça Portugal 35-B”, a marking commonly used on Alcobaça ceramics referencing 18th century inspired forms and patterns rather than an 18th century production date.
The jar is in good vintage condition with no visible cracks or repairs. Minor glaze irregularities and small firing marks are consistent with handmade production.
