Antique Staffordshire Cottage Pastille Burner Floral Encrusted English Pottery House Victorian Ceramic Collector Ornament

Victorian Staffordshire Cottage Ornament Antique English Pottery Pastille Burner Applied Flowers Blue Base Collectable

This antique-style English Staffordshire cottage ornament is modelled as a substantial country house with an open rear section consistent with the construction of a pastille burner. The unmarked piece is attributed to the Staffordshire tradition based on its architectural form, applied floral decoration and hand-painted finish.

The ceramic cottage has white crackle-glazed walls, a yellow roof, multiple chimneys, a red entrance and a deep cobalt-blue oval base. Applied flowers and foliage extend across the roofline, walls and garden areas, while gilt-coloured details accent the chimneys, windows and architectural moulding. Variations in the decoration and modelling reflect its hand-finished character.

Cottage-shaped pastille burners became popular in Britain during the nineteenth century. Scented pastilles were placed inside and burned so that fragrance could escape through openings in the building. Staffordshire workshops produced cottages, churches and other architectural models decorated with flowers, foliage and coloured enamels. Comparable examples are commonly dated from the Regency period through the Victorian era.

The piece is in visibly age-worn condition. Extensive glaze crazing appears across the walls, roof, chimneys and underside. Numerous small chips and losses are present among the delicate applied flowers and textured roof decoration. There is rubbing and loss to the gilded and painted details, particularly around the cobalt-blue base and chimney tops. Surface marks, discolouration and wear are also visible. No manufacturer’s mark is present, and the original age and maker cannot be guaranteed. Please study every photograph closely for the full condition.
