This porcelain canary bird figurine was produced by W. Goebel in 1973 in West Germany and is associated with the Hummel tradition of naturalistic ceramic animal figures. The piece depicts a standing canary perched on a stylised tree stump base, a design typical of Goebel’s mid-20th-century bird studies.

The figure is made of hand-decorated porcelain with matte and lightly glazed surfaces, showing detailed feather texturing in yellow, grey, and muted green tones. The wooden stump base is modelled in porcelain and painted to resemble natural wood grain. The underside bears a Goebel W. Germany mark along with a paper label identifying the model as “Canary Bird,” confirming authenticity and production period.

Goebel bird figurines from this era were produced as decorative collectibles rather than limited editions, with a focus on realistic form and subtle colouring. Canary models were especially popular in the 1960s–1970s, reflecting domestic and ornamental bird themes common in European interiors of the period.

Condition: There is a visible chip to the tip of the beak. No other cracks or repairs are observed, and the figure remains stable on its base. The damage is clearly shown in the photos and has been reflected in the pricing.
