Vintage Gater Hall Teapot Ye Olde Willow Coloured Transferware Hexagonal Staffordshire Ironstone English Teaware
Gater Hall Ye Olde Willow Teapot Vintage Burslem Staffordshire Coloured Ironstone Hexagonal English Pottery
This vintage Gater, Hall & Co. teapot features the Ye Olde Willow pattern, combining a traditional East Asian-inspired landscape with a distinctive hexagonal Staffordshire pottery form. It was produced at the Royal Overhouse Pottery in Burslem, England.
The substantial ironstone body has a faceted neck, angular handle, curved spout, fitted hexagonal lid and moulded fluting around the lower section. Multicoloured transfer decoration depicts pagodas, bridges, trees, birds and figures in shades of red, brown, green, blue and yellow, finished with hand-applied gilt accents.
Gater, Hall & Co. manufactured earthenware and ironstone at Burslem until the early 1940s. The Ye Olde Willow backstamp found on comparable examples has been dated to approximately 1926–1943. This colourful interpretation belongs to the wider British Willow tradition, which adapted East Asian imagery for Staffordshire tableware.
The teapot is in aged vintage condition with extensive crazing across the body, underside, lid and interior. There is age-related staining, surface discolouration, rubbing to the transfer decoration and considerable wear to the gilt detailing. Additional surface marks and minor edge and glaze wear are visible around the spout, handle, lid and raised sections. No obvious major cracks or repairs are visible in the supplied photographs. Due to its age and condition, it is recommended primarily for decorative display.
