Vintage Staffordshire Spaniel Dogs Associated Pair Red White Pottery Figures Gilt Collar Hearth Decor

This vintage associated pair of Staffordshire-style spaniel figures features red and white hand-applied decoration with gilt collars, raised padlocks and softly crackled glazed surfaces. The two seated dogs face in opposite directions and create a coordinated mantel or cabinet display.

Made from glazed ceramic, each figure has moulded ears, facial details, a scalloped bib and a curled red tail. Their expressive yellow eyes and individually painted markings give each dog its own character.

This is an associated decorative pair rather than a confirmed identical factory-matched set. Differences can be seen in the facial painting, eye placement, red markings, brushwork, moulded details and underside construction. The figures remain closely coordinated in size, colour and overall design and are offered together as photographed.

Staffordshire spaniel figures developed from the traditional mantel dogs displayed in Victorian British homes. Red and white versions with gilt collars continued to be reproduced throughout the twentieth century and remain associated with English cottage, country house and grandmillennial interiors. Neither figure carries an identifiable factory backstamp, so a specific maker has not been attributed.

Both figures display overall age-related crazing, minor surface marks and wear around their unglazed bases. There is some wear and variation to the gilt decoration. No obvious chips, cracks or repairs are visible in the supplied photographs. No original boxes are shown or included.
