Product details

Antique Coronation Mug Ceramic Cup Brentleigh Ware Queen Elizabeth II England 1953 Collectible
This antique ceramic mug was produced by Brentleigh Ware in Staffordshire, England to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953. Made as a functional commemorative drinking vessel, it reflects post-war British pottery traditions and the widespread production of royal celebration wares during the early reign of Elizabeth II.

The mug features a straight-sided cylindrical form with a comfortable loop handle and a gently stepped base. The front displays a detailed coronation transfer with a central portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by heraldic banners, floral motifs, and the coronation date. The reverse carries the crowned “E II R” royal cypher. The glaze exhibits fine age-related crazing typical of mid-century Brentleigh Ware production. Height measures approximately 10.5 cm, with a width of 11 cm and a depth of 8 cm. The weight is 205 grams.

Brentleigh Ware was produced in Staffordshire and is known for textured earthenware surfaces and durable glazes. Coronation mugs from 1953 were widely issued across Britain, yet examples in clean condition are increasingly collected for their historical significance and nostalgic appeal. This piece is well suited for shelf display, historical decor, or as a collector-focused display item.

The condition is good vintage condition overall. There is light surface wear and uniform glaze crazing consistent with age, along with minor handling marks. No cracks, chips, or repairs are observed.
